Military Spouse Life: 10 Tips For A Happy Reunion

Ok so I will preface this post with a) I love my soldier and  b) we have been married for almost 23 years (so I pretty much have said all of this to his handsome face :). But this week I have had SOOO many spouses and friends ask me if their spouse has “LOST HIS EVER LOVIN MIND” that I felt the need to write about the Caveman phenomenon that does occur within the military community. You see I know that there is some young newly married spouse that is wondering what happened to that guy who walked out the door “missing her already”. What happened to the thoughtful caring spouse who was sensitive to the fact…

Bulletproofing Your Military Marriage – The Separation Factor

Wow, it’s good to be home. Yes it was wonderful to see my sister and brother-in-law and my 3 nephews (family really shouldn’t live so far away – just saying). Yes it was great to reconnect with many fellow military spouses at the AUSA convention and I LOVED “storming the hill” and meeting with my congressman and senators on the issue of dependent access to behavioral/mental health care. Military Life Series: Bulletproof For A Better Military Marriage – Part 3 (Sharing)

Over the last week or so, we’ve been talking about different things we can do to make our military relationships stronger.  We’ve covered the topics of Trust (Part 1) and Communication (Part 2) and today it’s all about the importance of being able to share the little things. Why? Because: Sharing The Little Things Brings You Closer When we are forced to be separated from our spouses for long periods of time, one of the hardest things that military spouses face is that we all change.  Our kids grow, our spouses learn to cope with the effects of combat and we become stronger and more resilient.  Both you and your…

Military Life Series: Bulletproof For A Better Military Marriage – Part 2 (Communication)

In Part 1 of our discussion on Bulletproofing our Marriages so that they don’t get pummeled by the military lifestyle, we talked about trust and how important it is especially in a military relationship. Today it’s all about communication! Communication is so much more than what we typically think it is.  According to Sandy Fowler, co-creator of the communication product Your 4 Keys[1], when we think of communication we often think of it from a verbal or non verbal point of view.  In fact, the most important part of communication is actually deep within each of us.  It’s the one thing that is “all about you”.  Sounds crazy right, but not when…
